Where You'll Find Me

I'm currently running my blog over at WritersAfterDark.net. I'd love it if you stopped by and hang for a bit! I'll return the favor, promise!

Running two blogs gets a bit difficult, so bear with me while I figure things out. In the meantime, if I could interest you in industry news, writing tips, and poking some fun at writerly problems, you'll find me here:

Super Blogger Award

This is a brand new award created by Mark Means over at Left and Write and the rules are simple:

Take the award for yourself, then pass it along to someone who inspires you or you just think is 'super' in one way or another. Tell us why you think that person is super and deserving. Now, all the recipient has to do is reveal a (as in one) small secret about themselves (super people always tend to have a secret or two, right?) and pass the reward on to someone they think is deserving.

Thank you Brandon for awarding me with this, I almost feel like Supergirl at the moment! I'm going to take the chance and pass it on to an amazing Blogger and friend Al Diaz over at Father Dragon Writes.  If ever you need inspiration, a good laugh, or even a heart to heart then Al's blog is the place to go. His honesty and positivity in life is beyond encouraging, even when he doesn't know he is doing it. And he does it while making you laugh so really, its a win-win.

So, Father Dragon you and your Dwarfs are all SUPER :D

.... Now on to a secret of mine....

I had to think about this one, and honestly? I'm not sure you can handle the truth. And the truth is... I may or may not be exaggerating at the moment with my previous statement. I mean my life is an open book, there are no secrets... well, except for the fact that this whole writing life is a secret to all who know me in real life. There are only three people who know, and that's it. So the secret is you are special and you are in on it.

No? Not good enough? Okay, last try: I'm having an affair. There I said it. I will not say his name because it isn't right but I will share his initials: D.V.R. I love him so! He takes me to different worlds and keeps the kids entertained when I need a minute to myself and he is always there when I need him. Always. I am little bit obsessed with him to tell you the truth, I check in on him constantly, and I might have some kind of an attack if he ever leaves me. It would not be good. That being said, we haven't spent that much time together in the past weeks because I've just been busy with the writing... but I do sneak a look here and there. Sigh.

There... pray for me if you must.

Oh, and for those lacking a bit in technology (Mom) DVR is from the cable company and its a Digital Video Recorder, so please don't come and ring my ears or anything... o_0

This week I'm celebrating:

1-Tonight I'm finally going to watch Man of Steel,
feels like I've been waiting forever, but babysitters were needed and all that.

2- I have made big progress rewriting. I was stuck but
I've been listening to some new music that matches my novel
and that has me quite inspired to keep going.

3- Connecting with a great author friend over the phone.
(I don't like phone conversations)
But it was very natural and I've "known" her for months so it was awesome.
Sup, Deb?

4- Mah buddy, Mr. Ax, gave me the Super Blogger Award and made
a pretty cool drawing to go with it. Check it out here. Thanks, Brandon.

New Release & Giveaway: CHOICES by Sydney Lane

Out today! You can buy it HERE.

Blurb:

Fate brought her here, but will her choices destroy her dreams?

Quincy Priest made all the right choices in her small town, black-and-white life. But being perfect is tiring. So. Very. Tiring.

Wanting desperately to step out of her sister's shadow, Quincy jumps at the opportunity to attend college with her best friend. The quiet bookworm with family secrets comes out of her shell. ...But when Quincy meets not one, but two perfect guys, she has to make a choice. In doing so, she might forfeit the relationship she secretly longed to find.

Declan. Sweet, handsome, and perfect. He makes her feel cherished for the first time in her life.

Brody. Sexy, hot, and irresistible. He could tear down her carefully built walls.

Before she can become the woman she wants to be, Quincy will make mistakes. And suffer one unimaginable loss.

Interview with the author:

Thanks Sydney for agreeing to an interview ;)

1- How do you hope Choices will inspire or help Young/New Adults?
Choices is very near and dear to my heart, and I would hope to inspire young adults to be aware of who they are and where they are headed in life. I also hope this book is a platform for teen bullying and depression awareness.

2- How long did it take you to write the novel?
I have a full-tme job, so I didn't have a lot of free time. I wrote it in 3months, but I'm still working on edits. From start time ot publish date, it will be 5 months.

3- What was your method for writing Choices- did you plan it out or fly by the seat of your pants?
I probably used an unusual approach in that.... I didn't really have one! I actually wrote the ending first. From there, I just wrote wherever the characters took me. There was no plan, only the ending. You might be interested in knowing that the ending actually changed! Over time, I came to love my characters and to think of them differently. The ending I built the whole book around was not the ending you will read.

4- If you had to pick one character from your book that you loved the most, who would it be and why?
Jenna. She is a culmination of several friends I've had throughout my life. When writing for her, she always made me smile. She is the kind of friend everyone wishes they had, and I feel so blessed to have had "them" in my life.

5- If you could cast your main characters in the Hollywood movie version, who would play them?

Quince - Rachel Bilson

Jenna - blonde Emma Stone

Eric - Alex Pettyfr

Declan - Dave Franco

Brody - Henry Cavill

Street artist Todd Lowery is a high school student with a lot of potential, although his parents don't see him that way. When he’s not spraying murals of beautiful girls with his crew, The Spill, he’s chasing girls.
When he’s interrupted in “his” tree house by his new neighbor, Ghost, he decides to check out the situation instead of running from it. He finds himself falling for Ghost’s live-in girlfriend Maeve while dating his current dream girl Adrine.
Todd tries to get away from Maeve to prevent disrespecting Ghost, but finds it impossible. Ghost hires him to deliver packages of all sizes. What resides in the packages isn’t clear to Todd and it has him questioning the situation. He wants to quit, but the perks are just too good.
Todd has two choices: stay with Adrine, stay away from his neighbors, and live a normal teenage life, or leave Adrine, join his neighbors in their illicit world, and risk falling harder for Maeve.

New Release: ONE by Leigh Ann Kopans

I've been waiting and waiting and waiting...
and finally tomorrow (June 11, 2013) I will be able to read it.

Synopsis:

Sixteen-year-old Merrin Grey would love to be able to fly, or even drift along like a freaking ghost - too bad all she can do is float up and down. When almost everyone else is a Super, with at least two powers, or a Normal, with none, being a One is the worst kind of in-between.

All Merrin has ever wanted is to land an internship at the Biotech Hub. She busts her butt in AP Chem and salivates over news of Hub President Fisk’s experiments, hoping she can get close enough to his research on the manifestations of superpowers to finally figure out how to fix herself.

Then she meets Elias VanDyne, another One, and all her carefully crafted plans fly out the window. Literally. When the two of them touch, their Ones combine to make them fly, and when they’re not soaring over the Nebraska cornfields, they’re busy falling for each other. Merrin’s over the moon - Elias is as good at kissing as he is at helping her fly. Better yet, her mad chemistry skills land her a spot on the Hub’s internship short list.

But when the Hub kidnaps Elias, Merrin discovers The Hub’s sick experiments could take away even their measly single powers - Fisk’s interest in Ones like them might even be lethal. If she stands up to Fisk, she not only risks Elias’s life, she’ll also destroy her chances of ever finding a way to fly solo – of ever being more than a One.
